Klann Mechanism

Hi viewers,
In this post i'm going to discuss the details of Klann Mechanism.

The Klann linkage is a mechanism that is used to simulate the foot steps of legged animal and can be used in robot instead of  wheel. Most popularly to get the dimensions of the linkage we will use http://www.mekanizmalar.com.
                 # But the problem is several data were missing in that site. For most of the beginner it will much difficult (including me). For me it took 3 days to figured it out.
!!!!!!!!!!!Finally my mechanism worked properly!!!!!!.

The complete details are given below.
Link Dimensions
Base Triangle Dimension:
Important Note:
               # 222mm link and 288mm link must be permanently joined at the angle given below.

My completed Link perfectly working!!!!!!!!!!

  2. @ Kiruba:
    Calculating the dimensions:
First fix one dimension as u wish ie consider 490 in the pic as 20cm(its ur choise) now multiply all the link dimension with (20/490)=0.04. U can get accurate dimensions.

  3. BIG BIG BIG BIG thank you!
i am trying to program this, and i wasnt able to find the suitable dimensions so the linkage doesnt fall in a singular configuration. one linkage is working for me now thank to you!
i am gonna try to put 4 linkage so it looks like legs of a spider

    1. I'm also working on a project involving a walking Hippogriff. I believe that this design would be best for the legs. I tried to program the motion of it in MATLAB but am currently stuck. Would it be possible for you to help me? I can email it to you the code I have now. Thanks so much.

  5. Your base triangle is measured incorrectly. I am assuming the 266.16mm dimension is horizontal, and creates two right angled triangles within the base triangle. Use some trig to check your dimensions.

  6. Yes 266.16mm dimension is horizontal and trigonometrically design is correct. I'd get Positive results dude.......

  7. hey what is the angle between the 490 link and the 265 link.

  8. The triangle dimensions do have a typo error.
    The 206.57 should read 296.57

  10. I am sorry, dude. But some of your numbers just don't work out / wrote down incorrectly.

  14. This is reallllly cool man :D
i will try 2 simulate it in Matlab, im a begginer, so if you have some pointers, i would much appreciate it .
So far ive programmed only a 4 bar and cranck piston. This will be a great challenge, lol.

  16. The dimensions of the triangle are wrong...
How can the altitude be longer than the sides??

  17. I need to increase the size of leg but i used multiplying factor at legs as well as triangle keeping angle constant but still strugling to get output....
Can any1 help its quite urgent.........

  22. when we reduce the above dimension by 5 times then what will be the new dimension of triangle formed by three fixed point. are the dimension of triangle will be reduced by 5 times and remaining angle will be same? plz ans
